Perfect Year Challenge
Earn a platinum trophy in every month of a calendar year.
No sign-in and no PlayStation account linking. The PSN ID only needs to have trophies set to public.
A perfect year is twelve months with a platinum in each of them, January through December. It is not a test of how many platinums a hunter can earn — twelve is enough — it is a test of never going quiet. One busy summer followed by an empty November breaks the year just as surely as never playing at all.
This tracker sorts a platinum list into months and checks every calendar year on the profile. Each month shows whether it is covered and which platinums are filling it, and the months still open are listed together so a year in progress has an obvious to-do list.
The board opens on this year, the one still worth doing something about. Every year of the challenge is listed underneath as twelve dots apiece — not only the years you played, so the ones you never started are as visible as the one that got to eleven. Any of them is one click away.
- Enter a PSN ID with trophies set to public.
- Every platinum is filed into the month it was earned, and the missing months are listed for you.
- Click any covered month to see which platinums are filling it, then download the board as a PNG.
- Month grid — all twelve months of a year at a glance, showing which are covered and which are still open.
- Missing months — the months you still need, listed together so you know what the year is waiting on.
- Month detail — click a month to see every platinum earned in it, with artwork and platform.
- Every year at once — a row for every year, played or not, showing all twelve months as dots — so a near miss from years ago is as easy to spot as a year you never began.
- Perfect years marked — every year where all twelve months are covered is marked in the year list, so the ones you finished stand out from the ones still open.
- Repeat completions — a year with several platinums in every month shows how many times over it is complete, not just that it is.
- Shovelware gate — platinums earned by over 70% of players do not cover a month, and are listed separately under the board.
- Export — download the year board as a PNG image.
Frequently asked questions
Which month does a platinum count for?
The month you earned the platinum trophy, read in your own timezone. A platinum earned late on 31 January counts for January, the same way it does on the Yearly Recap and in the mosaic's month filter.
Does the year have to run January to December?
Yes. This is a calendar year challenge, so a twelve-month run from June to the following May does not complete either year. Both of those years would show gaps.
Do several platinums in one month help?
Only for that month by itself. A month is either covered or it is not, and extras do not carry over to fill an empty one — which is why the challenge needs at least twelve platinums spread across the year rather than twelve platinums. Extras are not wasted, though: the challenge can be completed more than once in the same year, and a month only helps toward a second completion once every other month has caught up to it. Five platinums in every single month means the year is complete five times over, not once with leftovers.
Do all platinums count?
Platinums earned by more than 70% of the players who started the game do not cover a month. The challenge is about keeping a year going with games worth playing, and a platinum almost nobody misses is an easy way to fake a quiet month. The bar is deliberately loose — plenty of well-liked games sit in the fifties and sixties and still count — and any platinum set aside is listed at the bottom of the board.
Can a perfect year come undone?
In theory, yes. Rarity is not fixed — PSN recalculates it as more people play a game, so a platinum sitting right on the 70% line could one day tick over it and reopen the month it was covering. A perfect 2010 could stop being perfect without you touching your console. In practice this should effectively never happen: the bar is generous on purpose and very few platinums live near it, since games either hand the platinum to nearly everyone who starts them or they do not.
Do I need the platinum, or is any trophy enough?
The platinum. The tracker only looks at games where you earned the platinum trophy, which is what makes a perfect year worth having.
Which months are usually hardest?
Whichever ones a hunter takes off. December and the middle of summer are the usual gaps — holidays, travel and a new release that takes six weeks all leave a month empty. The missing-months list makes it obvious which ones are left in the year you are working on.
